Recap and Highlights - Find out what happened in class today
October 22nd, 2013
Today we talked about MLA format. From this point forward, if you submit a formal piece of writing without using MLA format, I will give it back to you without marking it. Practice now, for future successes.
We returned to our "Character Sketch" discussion. We wrote one together as an example (find it on the homework page). On Thursday, you will write your own in-class character sketch on what it means to be a part of your NDEL team.

Today you went outside for some "unstructured" play. I was very happy with your behaviour and the observations I made. I don't know if you realized it or not, but you started as three separate groups which were dictated by the materials I had for you: the football, the frisbee, and the soccer ball. After 10 minutes, you all seemed to join the frisbee group and played together.
After 20 minutes of play, we came inside where you read an article on "Unstructured Play" and wrote an Express and Reflect piece on your website based on your experience.
I hope you had fun.

Team photos!
We listened to Eminem's "When I'm Gone" and Three Days Grace's "The High Road." We identified the speakers mistakes and feelings (much like you are going to do in your essays). We also read "A Mistake that should last a Lifetime." All of these will help you write your first draft of your essay.

A productive day. I'm looking forward to reading your AoW's. Keep in mind, each of those articles are worth an AR point, IF you pass the reflection.
On Thursday, we will work on your websites and play with 5 card flickr.

We did not have a great day today; however, I do think that we learned a lot about each other today and set expectations and boundaries. Clean slate on Thursday.
Your jersey's are coming along nicely. They will be due on Monday September 30th. Team photos will take place on Monday as well.

Since the 6th, a lot has happened. You completed the Reading Comprehension tests that helped determine your teams. You got your teams, and wrote an in-class essay. A productive and exciting couple of weeks.

Today you tried to solve the Lion/Tamer/Family problem and wrote a diagnostic test that will help determine your Teams. On Tuesday, you'll write one more test (very similar to the the one you took today) and by the following Monday you'll finally be on a team.
Reminders: On Thursday, we have Opening Mass.
On Wednesday September 18th, you will have a X-Grade Original Composition Test*.
*Original Composition: You will receive a writing prompt that you will either agree or disagree with. Then you will write a multi-paragraph narrative essay that makes a point to prove your point.

First day of school!
Today you received a lot of information - and there's more to come. Please take a look at the PENALTY BOX section on the HOME page where I have created the League's rules and regulations and their consequences. Should these need to be altered, we can certainly do so.
HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY: Respond to the FORUM (English 9) under the HOMEWORK TAB.
The SCHEDULE page has been updated with important dates for September. Your first GAME day is FRIDAY.
I have created student weebly accounts for your personal player websites. Once you have created these websites, they will be featured under the PLAYERS tab. You will start building your sites next week. If you want to get a head start, come see me - either in class, on in Rm. 204.
